Product Details
Quercus robur is one of our native giants and undoubtedly the most widespread. These sturdy behemoths grace our countryside, instilling a profound sense of wonder. Despite their leisurely pace of growth, oaks are stalwart companions, standing tall for centuries. In open spaces, they unfurl a sprawling canopy, decked out with robust branches.
The leaves, with minimal stalk, showcase distinct lobes and a lush green shade. Come autumn, they transform into subtle hues of orange and brown. In spring, the oak dons delicate male catkins beside its leaves, heralding the impending arrival of acorns. These fruits, often appearing in clusters, may boast more than one acorn per stalk.
As substantial, expansive, and enduring as they are, oaks play a crucial role in supporting a diverse array of life. Beyond their ecological perks – like cooling the surroundings, regulating water events, absorbing carbon, and churning out oxygen – the importance of these trees cannot be overstated. Despite the looming threat of the recently introduced Oak Processionary Moth, the undeniable benefits of sustaining oak populations make it essential to plant more, ensuring they continue to fulfil their vital role in maintaining environmental balance and supporting life.
